Description
MOISSANITE: Made from silicon carbide, moissanite is a lab-created gem that is often used as a diamond alternative because of its durability, sparkling appearance, and affordable price tag. Moissanite was first discovered in a meteor crater in 1893 by a scientist named Henri Moissan. Today, naturally-occurring moissanite is incredibly rare. That's why almost all the moissanite used in jewelry has been lab-created.
Moissanite is often used as a diamond simulant, being the second most durable gem (9,25 Mohs Scale of hardness). This is why they are a great "diamond" alternative.
Distinguishing moissanites and diamonds based on brilliance and fire isn't reliable; unless you have experience in the jewelry industry, you wont be able to tell the difference just based on appearance.
